PROGRAM NAME:
Interdisciplinary multi-Omics research in Exact and Natural Sciences
If you choose the EXACT AND NATURAL SCIENCES MODULE, the following are waiting for you:
- 40 hours of academic classes conducted by specialists in Exact and Natural Sciences
I week ONLINE |
July 10th-14th, 2023 |
II weeks in Toruń |
July 17th-28st, 2023 |
- additional attractions "MY SPECIALIZATION TRIPS" – those activities take place outside the main didactic program and present Poland as an attractive place of educational, scientific and research opportunities; we offer various attractions depending on the specifics of a given module, including sightseeing, shows, visits to various places, trips outside Toruń.
Interdisciplinary multi-Omics research in Exact and Natural Sciences
The course will cover issues related to multi-omics researches in the past and present, especially in the context of disease and health in biomedical and animal production in veterinary sciences. Course participants will learn about:
- History of modern multi-omics researches (time line 1960-2023)
- Post Mendelian genetics and post double helix era (1960-1980) of modern research in biomedical and veterinary science
- Modern Genomics rea (1980-2005) research in biomedical and veterinary science
- Human genome sequence project (1991-2003), and post-HIGO project era of modern research in biomedical and veterinary science
- Next-generation genome sequencing era (2005 to 2023: till today)
- Challenges of multi-omics research in biomedical and veterinary science
- Bioinformatics analysis of multi-omics data (Computer and lab exercises)
Summer Course on: Advanced multi-omics researches in biomedical and veterinary science
During this course, participants will be provided with the cycle of lectures and computer and lab exercises. It will provide students the opportunity to learn about the advanced NGS technologies as well as to learn the advanced bioinformatics analytic tools in biomedical and veterinary science. Students will gain the necessary theoretical knowledge of multi-omics researches including genomics, transcriptomic, proteomics, etc. and will have the opportunity to analyze multi-omics NGS data from research conducted by scientists from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The multi-omics data analysis process will take online available bioinformatics tools. The course participants will be guided through all stages of working with NGS multi-omics data: from their collection and proper preparation, through understanding the data, formulating initial hypotheses, analysis, interpretation and building predictive analysis. Participants of the course will learn to work in the multi-omics NGS technologies (RNA-seq, DNA-seq, methyl-seq etc), which is currently one of the most widely used bioinformatics tools in the analysis of scientific data of multi-omics research in in biomedical and veterinary science.
Additionally, all participants take part all together in:
- the cultural module classes (online, 1st week, 20 academic hours):
In the world of Polish literature, music, film and contemporary art
- the cultural program (2nd and 3rd week):
Outside the classroom: culture and integration,
including activities such as: sightseeing Toruń and the University, a bonfire and Polish songs meeting, visiting museums and galleries, workshops, a city game, a 1-day trip outside Toruń.
